Well said Manyo.
The non awarding of the penalty to Lucan was a dreadful call, and if I recall, they were only 2 points behind at the time, and hard to believe, but the referee made that call from nearer the centre circle than the 45 even. Dreadful. I felt very sorry for Lucan afterwards, even after that peno call mistake, there were numerous frees awarded and not awarded that were (to say the least) dubious.
As for our game, well the referee had a stinker in my opinion. He was far too happy to dish out yellow cards for minimal offences. It was like he had of a perception of Ballymun being a dirty side and wanted to lay 'his mark' down early. “A little Hitler” was how a Ballyboden fella at the game called him. He may have had a point. As for his decision to award the equalising free for Brigids? Well that was purely a bad call obviously. He is said to have commented that the player in question took 6 steps with the ball, hence the free. I counted 3, but most others, neutrals and Brigids alike said 2 steps were taken when he blew for the free. It was a disgraceful call, and one which I hope, means he should never get a top level game again. He is supposed to be an inter-county referee, but I reckon he simply could not cope with the bigger occasion at all. It's dreadful to think that all the hard work the lads put in for the last year in particular could be taken away by a disgraceful call by an official.
It can be argued that we threw it away by not scoring for 25 minutes in the 2nd half, but when push comes to shove, we were still in the lead, and the winning position after 4 minutes of injury time, when the referee took the game from us.
All that said, I congratulate Brigids on a brilliant comeback. 6 down starting the 2nd half, some great grit and skill to get right back in it, and eventually win it. Well done and good luck to both OPER and Brigids in the final. I'm looking forward to it as a GAA fan, and I hope also as a GAA fan, the correct officials are made for this game. I'd ask the DCB to appoint Gary McCormack, Brian O'Sea, Mick Bisset or any of the other good referees in Dublin, for the sake of the game and the players and fans.
