Glencar/Manor retain Fenagh Cup
Published Date: 27 September 2009

Glencar/Manorhamilton retained their Masonite Senior Championship title this afternoon as they beat Carrigallen in what was an absorbing contest.

After 60 minutes of entertaining football Glencar/Manor emerged victorious by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline of 0-14 to 2-7.

Carrigallen got off to the best possible start as they goaled when the contest was just 30 seconds old after Andew McManus was picked out by Gary Reynolds.

Things got worse before they got better for Glencar/Manor as Carrigallen bossed the early exchanges.

However, by the time half-time arrived, there was just a solitary point between the sides in favour of Carrigallen.

The second half was played in a similiar vein to the first with outstanding contributions from the likes pf JP McManus and Terence Reynolds for Carrigallen while James Glancy and Adrian Croal scored some fine points to give Glencar/Manorhamilton the lead. Man of the match Paddy Maguire was exceptional in defence.

As the half progressed Glencar/Manor seemed to be the stronger of the sides but Carrigallen proved to be very resillient and 46 year old substitute, Brian Doyle scored his side's second goal with his first touch.

However, Glencar/Manor were not to be denied as they finished well to secure victory by the narrowest of margins after a county final that will be talked about for many years to come.

In the Intermediate final which was played yesterday evening in Ballinamore, Cloone claimed victory over Aughawillan on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-12.

The only goal of the game was scored by club chairman Adrian Nicholls in injury time at the end of the first half.

Aughawillan found themselves six points down with just 15 minutes remaining. Despite a brave effort in the closing stages that deficit proved to be too much to overturn.

Cloone's Damien O'Donnell was voted man of the match for his impressive performance.

In the Junior A final, Aughavas made a return to Intermediate football at the first time of asking as they defeated Eslin 0-12 to 0-10.

Aughavas were particularly impressive in the opening half with Colm Maguire voted man of the match for his contribution.

For Eslin, defeat signalled final heartbreak for the second successive year and they will be left rueing what might have been as a combination of good goalkeeping, good blocking and the woodwork prevented them from scoring a goal on at least three occassions in the second half.
