Not a big fan of the management myself but there was more to it than just them. Fair enough, there doesn't seem to be a gameplan or direction from the sideline but some of the individual mistakes were juvenile stuff.
Ross o'carroll apparently the solution to dublins full-back problem came for two balls that one of his team-mates had already committed to and his man scored 2 goals as a result. Two men going for one ball shouldn't happen at u-12 level nevermind senior inter-county. If he's last man back he needs to get goal-side to limit the damage that can be caused from the attack.
A big problem for the last few years for someone viewing the matches from the hill is the work-rate of the forward line. Their off-the-ball running is very selfish, they aren't willing to make decoy runs to the wings in order to create space, they all make short 15-20 yard bursts in and around the scoring zone. Compare this to Stevie McDonnell or even Alan Brogan a couple of years ago and they ran from wing-to-wing looking for ball which also tires the defender and creates space. Its straightforward stuff.
As for others:
Eamon Fennell – I reckon the accusation that he wouldn't be able for the hot summer days on a big pitch were correct. Fair enough, he won a few balls but twice i saw him stand in the middle of the pitch while Meath went on the attack. He's too slow.
Ross McConnell – anonymous again at midfield. how many chances does he need to be given to perform?
Niall Corkery – won a lot of breaking ball but more often than not gave it away then through poor hand-passing and foot-passing.
On the positive side, i thought Fitzsimons and Mossy Quinn played well. Quinn is needed as a free-taker but i thought he ran harder than any other forward when looking for ball as well.
