The Ballymun Kickhams
Intermediate Team

THE PLAYERS:

Brady, Kevin. (Nickname: Bradser). Kevin is a senior standard footballer who

didn’t have the time to commit to full training due to work and recent

marriage commitments. Plays his best football on the wing back or (in best

Chinese accent) wing forward. Speed and natural ball skills are his forté.

Brennan, Noel. (Nickname: Noely) Noel is another footballer who could be

senior if he was %100 fit. He has tremendous vision and distribution skills

with the ball and can field with the best of them, not a stranger to scoring

too. Can be a stranger to training. Best in midfield.

Carroll, J.P. (Nickname: Robocop) JP has been down the country training with

the Garda and as a result, has not been a full regular with the team.

However, when he plays in his preffered wing defending, his pace and ball

reading can frustrate the best forwards in Dublin. Possible senior of the

future (sorry Macker).

Carroll, Mick. (Nickname: Bomber) Mick has been in the club since a wee lad

and has always played his best football as a full back where his strength

and pace can soak up all the pressure that forwards throw at him. Not one to

be found in the Autobahn regularly, and this is nothing to do with his

commitment to fitness.

Dunne, David. (Nickname: Dunner). Another lad with a very original nickname

and a member of the U-21 squad this year. Can play either corner back or in

the forwards. A great all round footballer who’s turn of pace is lightning

and his strength improving. One to watch for the future, if a professional

pop career doesn’t take him first.

Deeley, John. (Nickname: Deeley). Probably the quickest member of the team

and not the youngest either. A converted soccer player whos defensive skills

and tenaciousness are unequalled in the league (sorry again, Macker). An

enigma in that for once, Wexford created a good footballer.

Guinnane, Dermot. (Nickname: Galway). Another member of this years U-21

squad and a definite senior in years to come. A wing back who loves to carry

the ball and is strong in the tackle and in the bursts up field. A mystery

how he hasn’t got called up for inter county duty with his home county,

probably because they can’t understand his Dub accent!

Hardiman, Donal. (Nickname: Sweetcheeks). A resolute goalkeeper who would be

on the seniors only for the presence of a certain ex-Dublin first choice.

Another 21’s man who’s kickouts are lengthening and shotstopping improving

all the time. Certain to be senior in the next few years, his girlfriend is

instructing him in longer kickouts.

King, Brian. (Nickname: Kinger, sorry I didn’t mean it, mad dog etc.). Brian

is an older member of the squad who looks like a monster when fetching ball

and stroking it around the field. Can move with pace and can break up

attacks in his own inimitable style. Best in the number 6 jersey.

Lee, Emmet. (Nickname: Lee’r). Emmet is an extremely accurate forward who

can stroke over frees and destroy teams with his turn of pace and sharp

thinking. Unlucky with a few niggling injuries this year, but still a main

player in the squad and one to watch when on fire.

Long, Eoin. (Nickname: Space Cadet, Mork). Eoin is a member who stood down

from the senior panel this year due to lack of time to train, and the

management of the Inter’s were only too delighted to accept him. A bit of a

lunatic off the field, but a massive footballer with and without the ball,

lovely turn of pace.

McCormack, Mark. (Nickname: Mac). Mark is a true clubman and his family are

too. Wears the red and green in his heart and on his sleeve. The captain of

the team and a true leader from the corner back spot. Tenacious and a strong

character on the field, quiet as a mouse off it. A bit of an old timer in

comparison to the rest of the team.

McKean, Alan. (Nickname: Kegsar, Allie). Alan is a flying forward who’s

all-round game has improved game after game and it shows with the U-21’s

too. A nippy inside forward in the style of McCaul or O’Donoghue, has been

known to get his game on merit, and not because who his dad is.

McMahon, Dermot. (Nickname: Macker, MacDaddy). An attacking wing back
who’s breaking ball winning ability is astounding for his size. Tenacious and

fast, this man has grown in stature this year and at last might reach the

size of a normal adult male human soon. Got a bad reputation for his elbows

being sharp, not sure where this came from as he’s never been sent off in a

competitive match.

McManus, Andy. (Nickname: Andy Mack). Andy is the elder statesman of the

squad and an intelligent footballer as his experience would suggest. Still

incrediblly fit (for his age) and a man who will win ball and take and

create scores with ease. Go and watch this man in action, it is a lesson for

all would-be footballers to absorb.

Mongan, Martin. (Nickname: Marto). A young, strong, skilful, athletic and

absolutely astounding footballer to watch. Struggled to maintain fitness in

the early part of the year but thankfully, the U-21’s and the inters are

blessed with this godsend centre forward. One to watch, for Dublin.

O’Brien, Shane. (Nickname: Rava, Shaneo). Shane is another of the elder

statesmen who could have played senior this year, due to shift work, had to

settle for Inter, and weren’t the management happy for that too. Shaneo is

the chap on the ball and a lethal finisher. Great ball winner. Hair is

bright silver, matches all the overtime money he makes in work!

O’Connell, Frank. (Nickname: Frankie, FOC). Frankie is a lethal finisher off

either foot and is the nippy inside forward type. Getting on in years now,

Frank has mother and child to consider now when he thinks football. As a

result, looks old and slow, until he gets on the ball, then the sparkling

old Frankie springs into action.

O’Sullivan, Anto. (Nickname: Sully). Anto is a young member of the squad who

is still developing and is also a member of the 21’s. A very accurate

forward who, with more fitness, will make any team in the club. Can score

off either foot and will prosper in future. One to watch.

Quinlavin, Brendan. (Nickname: Bren). Brendan is a fantastic footballer who

has been out through injury most of the year, but the few games he did play

for the Inters, he showed his true quality. A real gem in the middle of the

park and his ball movement ability is quick and accurate. Must keep him away

from the soccer though.

Shelley, Mick. (Nickname: Shellier). Another one with a real intelligent

nickname that took years to make up. Mick is a fast, strong central player

who has played senior for years and the drop down showed the real class in

this player. Still fit and a cool customer on the ball. Known to curse the

odd time, but won’t admit it in public. Mr Nice Guy!

Smith, Derek. (Nickname: Smithser, Del Boy). Derek has been around for years

and is a tenacious, fit and furious footballer, generally plays best on the

wings. Mad as a hatter and has been heard slag his team mates in training,

once or twice. Great heart and skill.

THE MANAGEMENT:

O’Connell, Niall. (Nickname: NOC). Niall took over a struggling Inters team

last year and has transformed them into challengers this year. Are on course

for trophies this year and for the first time in years won the first round

of the championship. Smart GAA mind and not afraid to speak it.

McKean, Shane. (Nickname: Shaneo). Another man who isn’t afraid to speak his

mind, Shane has been involved with juvenile sections of the club for years

and took the step up when Niall asked him to assist. A great assest to the

team, and a great man for giving his son a game.

McGowan, Shay. (Nickname: Maxi). A man who runs the bread and butter of the

team, collects the subs, pays refs, gets jerseys washed and supplies the

water and medical stuff. A real gem, who, without him, the team wouldn’t

function. Loves to say, “stretch the hammies and the quads lads”!
